I found this ol' mix whilst digging around on my external HD. I'm in dire need of space right now on my internal HD and was transferring some newer mixes over and said let me give this a listen again. This mix is by far way more pumping (in the middle at least) than my current house appetites. However, I do still like it and it brought back some nice memories of gigs back in Philly with Dj Dirty. So I'm back visiting in Brooklyn, NYC and I thought it only right if I went back over to Uncle Jon's to crank out another mix on his stellar setup. Unfortunately last time I made a mix there, one of the RCA cables wasn't plugged in all the way and we were getting mono sound on one channel. Needless to say, I wanted a proper stereo version. After chastising Uncle Jon for last time's fiasco and a couple last minute cable checks, we got down to business! My lil' brother strolled through to join in the mix making festivities. Plenty of crown royal was flowing and the good times were too. I think this mix turned out pretty nice. Lots of my favorite songs on here and jus' downright good funk & soul jams. Peace & Hair Grease to all my funk soul bruthas......

So for Episode 6 we have an exclusive LIVE recording of LOVEBIRDS @ my annual Detroit Movement Festival event: Now In Stereo. The night started off a bit shaky as all the amps were smoking and that's never a good sign by any means. I pretty much only had the 2 monitors working for most of my set, but by 1/2 way through the Detroit Disfresh (who I do the event with) guys had mustered up several more backup amps which at least powered one of the two massive stacks of sound we had. Things started to get cookin' when East Coast Boogiemen took the helm, Fred Everything took the dance-floor to the next level, and by the time Lovebirds went on it was so HOT that we had a 4 alarm fire on our hands! This was a truly magical event that I will remember for the rest of my life. Not only was the music stellar, but I made a new friend. Thanks Basti....

You might notice that the recorder was left on the MIC function by accident. By no means was this intentional, but I really think it adds a cool vibe to the recording where you can almost feel like you are there. Lots of hootin and hollerin' and of course my "mildly" intoxicated self on the microphone.

We actually played twice at our Do You Wanna Boogie? event in Miami for WMC 2010. Unfortunately, Glenn Underground never made it out of Chicago so we had to cover his slot. This was our 1st set at the party which was right before Crazy P performed. You'll actually here the beginning of Crazy P's set at the end of the mix and I should have that posted up pretty soon so keep your eyes peeled! Thanks to all those who attended and hope this mix does justice to the vibe of the day...

First off I'd like to send shouts to John Buckby, Nathan Boddy, and the whole Winding Road posse. Without you guys, there would be no inspiration for mixes like this! This mix was made the ol' fashioned way: using two Technics SL1200-MK2 turntables and one Pioneer DJM 300-S mixer. Call it a throwback!!! The acapella entitled Akabu - Phuture Bound (Fxapella) - (Z Records) and the sound fx from Nu Rhythmix - Urban Safari (Swing City) were used throughout this mix. Mastering of this mix was done by Marcus Aurelius @ M-Lab in Milwaukee, WI. Let's blast off to space...

So I think I stumbled across "this sound", which my buddy Nathan G. coined Electronik Soul, a couple years back in my ex-girlfriend's record collection. Ah the day is so clear! It was a wikked single on DIY Records with a Schmoov! remix. However, the remix & original were a bit more on the downtempo tip. Nevertheless, I proceeded in my usual research fashion and quickly fell in love. The thing that gets me about this style of house is that it's timeless. It's got a groove that never seems to go out of fashion. The perfect blend of disco, soul, funk, and electronic yummyness that makes my heart flutter. Oddly enough, I can count the number of producers making this style on just about one hand (the majority being from the UK).
